TINTING YOUR OILS WITH MIXOL OXIDE PIGMENTS

You can add long lasting, beautiful color to any of our finishes.

We carry Mixol Oxide universal pigments for sale to meet both your color and oil needs! Mixol brand pigments are the highest quality Universal Tints on the market today. They have been produced in Germany for more than 35 years and are highly compatible with all the Heritage Natural Finishes products. They are easy to use, just add the color right to the oil, shake well and apply. We love them and think you will too!

Mixols are known for their high concentration of pigment, sophisticated color palette, and ease of mixing. They are highly resistant to frost and heat damage, which makes them ideal for adding to our finishes for exterior applications specifically. They have an indefinite shelf life- they will not dry out or thicken, because they are binder-free. The oxide-based colors are made from inorganic pigments which make them colorfast, fade-resistant and weatherproof which make them ideal for exterior applications or where UV fading may occur. Mixol tints are not flammable or hazardous. We offer the oxide tints in three sizes: small 20ml test sizes, along with 200ml and 500ml bottles. We carry a couple of colors in the largest 5kg size.

APPLICATION:

To add Mixol Oxide pigments to our finishes, simply add the pigment at your desired intensity directly into our oils and mix well before use and as you continue to use it, as the solids can tend to migrate to the bottom as you work. Be sure to keep track of the ratio of tint to oil, so you can more accurately duplicate your ratio to make larger amounts. These are very concentrated colors, so a little goes a long way. The ratio where the concentration is the strongest but you can still see wood grain is about 12 oz. of Mixol added to 1 gallon of Heritage Original Finish. This gives you the strongest color before acting like paint. Apply tinted oil liberally on the surface, allow to soak in and wipe down lightly with a cotton cloth. Apply two coats for best results. The surface will dry to a classic rich matte sheen.

The Mixol Oxide tints are the richest and highest quality we’ve found, so I think you’ll be impressed and love the expanded color options while still working with our natural oil finishes. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Mixol makes 3 sizes of bottles and here is the conversion from ml to fluid ounces for easier measuring: 20ml = 0.68oz, 200ml = 6.76 oz, 500ml = 16.0 oz

COVERAGE:

About 400 sq. ft. per gallon in our Original or Exterior Finish on the first coat. Nearly double on the second. Depending on the species of wood you are finishing. Always do a test first to be sure you like the color and it’s penetrating well.

CLEAN UP:

Cleanup of the Mixol pigments is very easy, just use soap and water for pure pigment . Once the Mixol is mixed into the oil, use Pure Citrus Solvent or other solvent for clean up on hard surfaces or brushes.

Mixol Oxide - Universal Tinting Paste

Mixol tints are highly resistant to heat or frost damage. They won't dry out or thicken (because they are binder-free until you add them to our products so they will dry), so there will be a very long shelf/shop life. Check out our offering of oxide-based colors (03, 04, 05, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 & 25). The oxide-based colors are made from inorganic pigments, which make them colorfast, fade-resistant, and weatherproof. These oxide colors are ideal for exterior applications or where UV fading may occur. Cleanup is very easy with soap and water but if the pigments are mixed into our oils, clean up is best with a solvent. Mixol tints are not flammable or hazardous.

We love using fade-resistant Mixol Universal Oxide Pigments in our finishes when you want to add color! Mixol Pigments are the most concentrated, highest-quality tints on the market today.
