Ideal For

Any surface, particularly for reclaimed thirsty wood, high-wear furniture, wood floors, butcher block countertops, cutting boards, cabinetry, interior doors, wood trim, stairs and railings, tool handles and any project requiring deep penetrating protection with maximum durability.

Why Choose Concentrated Finishing Oil

Concentrated Finishing Oil contains a higher ratio of natural oils to solvent compared to our Original Finish. This makes it ideal for dense hardwoods that benefit from extra penetration, high-traffic areas that need maximum protection, and projects where you want to build up a more substantial finish. The concentrated formula means fewer coats are needed to achieve deep protection.

Application Instructions

Preparation:

  • Wood must be clean, dry, and bare (no previous finish)
  • Sand to 150-220 grit for optimal results
  • Remove all sanding dust with tack cloth or vacuum
  • Work in well-ventilated area at 65-75°F

Application Steps:

  1. Apply Liberally: Using a brush, cloth, or applicator pad, apply a generous coat
  2. Work Into Wood: Rub the finish into the wood grain, ensuring complete saturation
  3. Allow Penetration: Let oil soak in for 15-20 minutes
  4. Wipe Off Excess: Using clean, lint-free cloths, wipe off ALL excess oil until surface feels dry
  5. Drying Time: Allow 24 hours between coats
  6. Apply 2-4 Coats: Build up protection with multiple thin coats
  7. Light Sanding (Optional): Lightly sand with 320-400 grit between coats for ultra-smooth finish
  8. Final Cure: Allow 7-10 days for complete cure before heavy use

Coverage

Approximately 400-500 square feet per gallon on first coat. Due to higher oil concentration, coverage may be slightly less than Original Finish. Subsequent coats will cover more area as wood becomes saturated.

Drying & Curing

Touch Dry: 24 hours between coats
Light Use: 3-4 days after final coat
Full Cure: 7-15 days for complete hardness
Food Safe: 30 days for food-contact surfaces

Drying times vary with temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Warmer temperatures and good air circulation speed curing.

Pro Tips for Best Results

  • More thin coats are better than fewer thick coats
  • Always wipe off excess oil - leaving oil on the surface causes sticky finish
  • Work in sections on large projects to ensure proper wiping time
  • Dense hardwoods benefit most from the concentrated formula
  • The finish will continue to harden and deepen over the first 30 days
  • Buff with soft cloth after final cure for enhanced luster

Safety Information

  • Use in well-ventilated area
  • Wear gloves to protect skin
  • Keep away from heat and open flames
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Avoid eye contact

Concentrated Finishing Oil finishes are easy to maintain. Simply clean with mild soap and water, allow to dry, and reapply one coat annually or when water no longer beads on the surface. Spot repairs are easy - just apply oil to worn areas and wipe off excess.

Concentrated Oil

beae image basic

Our Concentrated Finishing Oil is a richer mix of the oils and solids found in our Original Finish, with less of the citrus solvent. This finish is best for hand application or commercial paint sprayers, and can be used anywhere, but especially beautiful and rich on furniture, softwood floors, reclaimed timbers, weathered exteriors, weathered wood anywhere, earthen floors or even concrete. This product makes a beautiful top coat in high moisture areas, counter tops, and floors. It works wonders on floors or timbers, especially on reclaimed or absorbent species like pine. For fine woodwork or for floors, power buff with a terry cloth pad, or thick cotton towel under the white pad with the edges tucked under and held by the buffing wheel. Or just rub on thin coats with an old cotton T-shirt. For earthen floors, build up 4-6 coats of oil as desired, let dry to the touch then buff in a coat or two of our Liquid Wax End Sealer for a lovely top coat.

Sanding between coats is not necessary, however, wet sanding and buffing produces a superb finish. It can also be used on very dry timber as the initial coat for deeper hydration with fewer overall coats needed.

Coverage:

Approx. 400 square feet per gallon or 500 board feet per gallon; rough-sawn materials tend to absorb more. You get less coverage on the first coat and more on the second usually. The density of the wood is also a factor. Softer woods like pine or reclaimed Doug. Fir will absorb more than oak for example. And obviously dry wood will soak up a lot more oil than green timbers. You may want to over-estimate when ordering. The finish keeps indefinitely when stored properly with minimal air exposure.

Clean Up:

For spills, over spray, or to clean up brushes, use our Pure Citrus Solvent or other solvent (Turpentine, Mineral Spirits, etc.).
