Concentrated Finish

Our finishes are a premium penetrating oil finish handcrafted in small batches with the highest quality, all-natural ingredients from sustainable resources. Heritage Natural Finishes are made without the use of toxic heavy metal dryers, chemical processing, petroleum distillates, or bleaching. All of our products are biodegradable, non-ozone depleting, and are listed in several leading green building material publications and can be used on large timbers, logs, T&G, cabinets, doors, earthen floors, and more!

Initially developed for the unique finishing requirements of large timbers and logs, Heritage Natural Finishes produce a superior, natural and easily repaired finish on any woodwork, enhancing the patina and grain pattern of the species to which it is applied. Because it contains no drying agents of any kind, Heritage Natural Finishes may be left on the wood surfaces for extended times, from an hour to overnight, without gumming or hardening, thus greatly enhancing absorption into the wood. Our natural oil finish continues to wick deeper into the fibers, grain, and checks long after the surface is dry.

About Our Concentrated Oil:
Our Concentrated Finishing Oil is a richer mix of the oils and solids found in our Original Finish, with less of the citrus solvent. It’s our most versatile product as the high solids content allows you to thin out the oil to suit your finishing project. Simply add more solvent/thinner for an easier flowing and quicker penetrating oil, or leave it as is for a rich hand rubbing coat. This finish is best for hand application or commercial paint sprayers, and can be used anywhere, but especially beautiful and rich on furniture, softwood floors, reclaimed timbers, weathered exteriors, weathered wood anywhere, earthen floors, tool handles or even concrete. This product makes a beautiful top coat in high moisture areas, counter tops, and floors. It works wonders on floors or timbers, especially on reclaimed or absorbent species like pine. For fine woodwork or for floors, power buff with a terry cloth pad, or thick cotton towel under the white pad with the edges tucked under and held by the buffing wheel. Or just rub on thin coats with an old cotton T-shirt. For earthen floors, build up 4-6 coats of oil as desired, let dry to the touch then buff in a coat or two of our Liquid Wax End Sealer for a lovely top coat.

Sanding between coats is not necessary, however, wet sanding and buffing produces a superb finish. It can also be used on very dry timber as the initial coat for deeper hydration with fewer overall coats needed. Apply oil until the wood surface is saturated and rub off any oil that doesn’t soak in. For additional protection against insects and molds, consider treating all wood with a borate solution before oiling.
Coverage:
Approx. 400 square feet per gallon or 500 board feet per gallon; rough-sawn materials tend to absorb more. You get less coverage on the first coat and more on the second, usually. The density of the wood is also a factor. Softer woods like pine or reclaimed Doug. Fir will absorb more than oak for example. And obviously, dry wood will soak up a lot more oil than green timbers. You may want to over-estimate when ordering. The finish keeps indefinitely when stored properly with minimal air exposure, just give it a good shake up before your next use.
Clean Up:
For spills, over spray, or to clean up brushes, use our Pure Citrus Solvent or other
solvent (Turpentine, Mineral Spirits, etc.).

100% Bio-based. Food safe once dry.
